Meet Our JHJ Scholarship Fund Founders
The James Humphrey Jr. Scholarship Fund is its own 501c3 organization, founded by James Humphrey Sr. and his wife, Ollie after the untimely death of their son, James Humphrey Jr. This scholarship fund was created to help high school students who aspire to attend college with a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1500.00 to assist them with starting their college journey. The scholarship fund has been in existence for over 20 years and is available to high school seniors who attend a public high school in Arkansas. Below are pictures of past JHJ Scholarship Award recipients over the past 20 years.
JHJ Scholarship Eligibility & Criteria
Tuition Assistance
The JHJ Scholarship program recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding high school students who have demonstrated leadership in academics and community service.
Eligible students for the JHJ Scholarship fund must be in good academic standing with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate an attitude for higher education, and a commitment to creating a legacy of community service involvement.
Each year, the JHJ Scholarship Fund offers several one-time scholarships of $1500 based on grades, essay quality, letters of reference, accuracy of application, and number of applicants received.
The window for scholarship applications is January 1 - April 22 each year. Applicants must submit 3 letters of reference, a photo, their most recent transcript, an explanation of financial need, and an essay of 500 words explaining their aspirations, commit to community service and why receiving this scholarship is in the best interest of their community. The cover letter of the applicant must include their name, address, phone number, gender, college of acceptance, and names of any other awarded scholarships (if any), and be signed and dated. Letters of reference must include a description of the applicant's character, why they believe the applicant is worthy of the scholarship, and how long they have known the applicant. All items must be received by April 22nd.
Applications are reviewed by a scholarship committee and awarded every spring. Recipients of the JHJ scholarship must demonstrate they have been accepted to an accredited college or university within the United States with an official acceptance letter for the fall semester of the scholarship award. Once verified, scholarships will be sent directly to the college or university on behalf of the student.
Interested applicants must mail all required materials before April 22nd to:
